In Feb 2026 we quietly released a new experimental feature that pre-categorizes transactions the first time the account’s data is filled into your Google Sheet. This feature is for Direct Fills Google Sheets only, and access is limited. If you’d like access to this feature write to beta@tillerhq.com to ask for access, which will require you to start fresh in a new Google Sheet.
When this feature is enabled for you, it’s turned on by default, and is a user preference setting. It can be turned on or off from the Settings page on the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com/settings
When turned on and a new Google Sheet is created we’ll pre-categorize your transaction data and automatically turn on AutoCat’s Auto Run on Fill feature as well as AI Suggest. This ensures that your data continues to be automatically categorized when it fills in and will use any customizations you make after the first fill so transactions are categorized consistently and based on your preferences going forward.
The pre-categorization step does not use AI to categorize your data. It’s a simple ruleset that maps the category data that comes directly from the aggregator, which is often provided by the bank itself, to Tiller’s default categories.
You’ll be able to opt out of AI Suggest when we finish creating and filling your sheet so it won’t run against future transactions as they’re being filled if you prefer your data never be sent to an LLM. In case you’re curious, AI Suggest is powered by Gemini.
You can control Auto Run on Fill and AI Suggest from the Settings section of a specific spreadsheet. Auto Run on Fill & AI Suggest are controlled at the spreadsheet level because you may want data in some spreadsheets categorized automatically whereas others you want to manually categorize or manually run AutoCat to keep a closer eye on things.
The pre-categorization workflow is at the user preference level because that feature has to be enabled before a spreadsheet exists so initial categorization can happen on fill.
If you have questions or feedback about this feature you can write to our support team via chat in the lower right corner of the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com.
