Investments (Beta)

Learn how you can track investments data such as holdings and position history.

Written by Heather Phillips

Important Notes

  • Support for holdings data varies by institution and data partner.

  • This feature currently works only for Direct Fills Google Sheets.

  • We are not currently escalating issues to our data provider for missing or inaccurate holdings data while in beta.

About Investments (Beta)

Automatically pull holdings history and current holdings data for your investments into your Direct Fills Google Sheets for accounts serviced by Yodlee or Plaid.

How to use it:

  1. Connect your investment accounts to Tiller via the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com if they're not already connected.

  2. Link the investment accounts to your spreadsheet if they're not already linked.

  3. Install the Holdings History or Holdings sheets via the Templates section on the Tiller Console for a specific spreadsheet where you want to track investments.

  4. Holdings data will be filled as it's available.

  5. Please complete this feedback form to report any issues with missing or inaccurate date or any other feedback related to this feature.

📘 Holdings data will start being collected and available for your investment accounts from the time you add the accounts or from the time the Investments feature was enabled for you, whichever was more recent.

Holdings History sheet

The Holdings History sheet allows you to track a running history of changes to your holdings. Think of each holding history entry as a snapshot. This is an observation of your holdings at the time our data provider pulled new or updated information for your holdings.

The Holdings History sheet updates only when your holdings information changes. Changes that will be reflected in an update include buys, sells, splits, and reverse splits. Updates may also occur when holding information is updated by our data provider including but not limited to holding description or associated account details such as account name or number.

Holdings History will not necessarily update each day and we may not be able to pull all data for a holding (e.g. cost basis or symbol may be missing)

As we work to continue improving these features please complete this feedback form to report any issues with missing or inaccurate date or any other feedback related to this feature.

Holdings sheet

The Holdings sheet is a snapshot of only your current holdings. It updates automatically during a fill as holdings data changes to always show you your current holdings.

It's helpful for building solutions when you only need to see the latest/current data to reduce performance issues associated with querying the entire Holdings History sheet, which eventually could become quite large.

You can add custom columns here and they will persist , but any column that Tiller populates will be overwritten when an holding is updated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add custom columns?

Yes. You can add custom columns to the Holdings History or Holdings sheet and Tiller will not touch these columns during a fill.

Can I modify my holdings info?

Edits to data that Tiller manages (columns list above) will be overwritten on the Holdings sheet with the next update for that holding. Edits to custom columns will persist.

What can I do about missing or inaccurate data?

Please complete this feedback form to report any issues with missing or inaccurate date or any other feedback related to this feature.

Can I track holdings manually?

Yes. You can add manual Holdings History entries by editing the Holdings History sheet directly and those will persist.

You can also add holdings manually to the Holdings sheet if you just want to record the current data for a holding.

You can just make up a Holding ID for these manual holdings if you're using or building a solution that keys off the Holding ID.

Are there any templates available to visualize my investments?

We don't have an official template to help visualize investments just yet, but check out the Community Builder Contest focused on generating solutions that layer on top of Investments (Beta).

Why don't I see any holdings data in my sheet?

There are a few reasons you may not see holdings data in your sheet:

  • We haven't pulled any holdings yet - if the feature was just turned on and you already had your investment accounts connected holdings may not come in until the next refresh.

  • You added Holdings History or Holdings before linking the accounts to the sheet. It's important to link the accounts to the sheet before installing Holdings or Holdings History. If this is the case, holdings should update on the next fill.

  • You're not using a Direct Fills Google Sheet.

  • We can't pull holdings data for your account(s).
